Random: Aaliyah.Com Releases Statement

I debated for a long time on whether I should post this, and I decided that because it was public knowledge ad given the rumors, you all should see this. Before you go into a panic or frenzy, it's nothing negative at all. This is just strictly information that I'm passing on to you. I just thought that because it was posted you as devoted #KCRyders should see it. Thus by seeing it, you can and may draw your own conclusions, or discussion points from said post.

It's no secret to #KCRyders that Aaliyah's brother Rashad does not want Keshia involved in the project. He made a public rant and literally bashed her, saying that she was using Aaliyah to further advance her career (tweets which he later deleted) via his twitter account (@RAD_6) a few months ago. (We know that that is entirely untrue because Keshia has, can carry her music career in her own right or else why would she be a Juno Award wining artist?) Afterwards Keshia was bombarded with questions concerning the "Aaliyah Movie" rumors that have been swirling over her head since Late 2007 up to the present day. There is an interesting development that I discussed with a fellow LKC team member on yesterday I believe it was... If you go to Aaliyah's website you'll find these words on the left hand side of the home page:

May 2011  Official Statement.
"Any upcoming merchandise or products
that have Aaliyah's name, whether similar
or the same, have nothing to do
with the Haughton Family."
What exactly are your thoughts on this? I (Cass) am a fan of both artists equally but why would such a statement be rendered if there wasn't something in progress.

Peep our video from her first Ustream back in April of 2010 as she speaks on the Aaliyah Movie rumor below.

I think it's unfair! Why is Rashad bashing Keshia for not allow to do a movie? He is so sensitive. I am disappointed. My friends and I are waiting foe the movie so long!!!

  3. He didn't DIRECTLY tweet Keshia because I don't believe that he has her twitter, but he did tweet her subliminally a few months ago, speaking about how nobody could play his sister and that Keshia was trying to use this Movie Rumor to boost her career. When clearly she isn't. Those tweets he's since deleted though. - Cassie

  4. I know I'll be lambasted for saying so, but... If a group wants to make a film in tribute to Aaliyah, and the influence her truncated career has had, we live in a free society and those people should feel free to make said tribute. How many bio-pic's are made w/o authorization?.. Tons of them. Frankly, those tend to be the truer depictions as they aren't told with the biases of those with a direct interest in the subject's posthumous success/image.
Moreover, it seems a testament to KC's character that she's clearly concerned with garnering that approval, which I pointed out isn't actually necessary. Perhaps Rashad shouldn't take it so negatively that others/fans also grieve for and miss Aaliyah (RIP).

  5. I agree with you 100% anon! There have been a lot of movies done for artists like MJ and others that were without authorization.
